With the development of logistics management, the informatization of storage management, as an important part of logistics information management, has been increasingly paid attention to. Meanwhile, computer and automatic identification technology are being brought into inventory management and the whole supply chain system continuously. The number and varieties of merchandise have thus become numerous and complicated, which puts an increasingly higher requirement for the modernization of inventory management, the accuracy and timeliness of information data. As a result, in implementing inventory management, the foremost issue that entrepreneurial managers have to take into account is how to keep a reasonable inventory, which will help to reduce productive cost and in the mean time will not affect normal production and client service. It is also very necessary for the improvement and optimization of supply chain. While RFID, with its unique advantages, can provide an indispensable condition for keeping a reasonable inventory.The paper makes a relatively thorough introduction and summarization of the working principle and research significance of RFID as well as its difference from other automatic identification technologies. Analysis on inventory management theories and systems is also made. To better elaborate the idea, the paper also takes a warfare shelter of a PLA equipment inventory management system as the example, analyzing and designing a RFID‐based system procedure. The application of warfare shelter will greatly shorten the time needed for equipment warehousing and unhousing, providing solid support for a quick, accurate and safe military operation, and a fine foundation for realizing joint logistics among the three services. Unlike barcode technology, RFID has a low environmental requirement but a higher accuracy in identification, which can lead to the significant change of storage system efficiency. More importantly, it can help to increase identification efficiency and solve anti-counterfeiting issue. Since its debut, RFID has been widely applied in a wide rage of fields owing to its technological advantages. Currently, it holds a great potential and market prospect in areas like material tracking and inventory identification, which needs non‐contact date acquisition, frequent exchanges and data alterations. At the same time, it is also expanding its application to more and more fields. The paper can be regarded as a reference for future research on RFID‐based inventory management system.
