Based on the agile and high-speed hedgehopping capability, helicopter has a huge effect in military. Because of the limit of carrying capacity, the radar system must haveMulti-function:target search, tracking, identify, crashworthiness. In war, helicopters are always covered by plant or landform or architecture, so they must search track and identify target through radar system. Radar terminal controller is very important in this system, because it provides an interface directly to the operator. The information provided to operator must be intuitionist correct real-time and friendly, so they can control it easily. This paper is designed a generic radar terminal system with high-performance PowerPC CPU, MPC8540. The purpose is implementing a hardware platform for software programming on radar terminal system. This platform has been used in several radar system successfully.The radar terminal hardware platform, which has several bus interface like ARNIC429, RS422/485,CPU LBC, PAL-D,1553B,UART.This board communicates with other devices through these interfaces.Modern radar system provides higher and higher request to the terminal sub-system. The sub-system not only has powerful processor, but also has a restrict weight limitation. The architecture of PowerPC has a useful balance in performance, frequency and low-power consume.The MPC8540 has Two three-speed (10/100/1Gb) Ethernet controllers (TSECs) which is Dual IEEE 802.3,802.3u,802.3x,802.3z, 802.3ac,802.3ab compliant controllers; 64-bit PCI-X support up to 133 MHz; Four-channel DMA controller; Programmable interrupt controller (PIC); The MPC8540 is more stabilization because of th high integration。The core has 256-Kbyte L2 cache/SRAM, support SIMD, Signal-processing engine (SPE) auxiliary processing unit (APU), The single-precision floating-point (SPFP) APU。In a word, when CPU is running in 800MHz, it has 1850MIPS calculate capability (PⅢ1GHz is about 900MIPS), at the meantime, the power consume is only 6W. Because embedded Linux has many advantages such as high real time, supporting graphics function greatly, easy to develop and low cost, it been use in our radar terminal system.
