Application-oriented University Core Competence

Enterprise's core competency is the basis of enterprise's continuous development and the resource of enterprise's competitive advantage. Since 1960's, enterprise's core competency began to be a new visual angle of research and practice on enterprise management, especially strategic management.This article reviews the relevant theories of enterprise's core competency and make a systematically theoretical explanation and case analysis on the meaning, distinguishing methods, assessing methods, cultivating ways of applied universities' core competency combined with the true situation of applied universities and the environmental changes after China's joining WTO, using the theories of enterprise's core competency for reference.The writer thinks: Along with high education's advancing in a popular style the competition in high education market of our country is becoming more and more intense. "Applied university" is a new and rising type of undergraduate college accompanied by high education's development in a popular style. It is one of entities in competition and has the general attribute of competition entities. So core competency exists too.The core competency of applied universities means that applied universities coordinate and integrate the resources, courses and processes in high education system to form a unique competency system that can gain continuous competitive advantages. It is a foundation competency toprovide a solid platform to bring other competencies into play.This paper analyzes detailedly the distinguishing standards of applied university's core competency, builds up an evaluating index system combined with their functions and positioning, and analyzes quantitatively and evaluates the core competency by building an estimating evaluation modal. This paper summarizes the thinking ways of cultivating applied university's core competency and discusses the methods of cultivating applied university's core competency from the aspects of system innovation, subject construction, faculty construction and college culture construction. Also, on the basis of practical investigation and research, it analyzes how to cultivate and enforce the core competency for a new applied college. It has definite practical significance on improving the teaching quality and facilitating the applied university's development healthily.
