Investigation And Analysis Of The State Of Social Adaptation Of Migrant Children In Cities

The floating children in the city are a special group. They live with their parents in the city, they are thus different from those who live in the countryside; On the other hand, they are also different from the permanent city children due to the fact that they have the background of once living in the countryside and have not yet obtained the registered permanent city residence. The thesis describes, on the base of statistical investigation and practical research, the living and educational situation of a group of floating children who are studying in the public schools in Zhengzhou city and analyzes both the social exclusion and social support network to them. The thesis discusses the main social exclusion the floating children encounter, including social welfare exclusion, ideology exclusion, social relationship exclusion, community exclusion, leisure exclusion and identity exclusion, all of which put the floating children into a very disadvantage position. The social support network to the floating children includes family support system, school support system and government support system and the support from the society, which is still relatively weak in general. Generally speaking, the city adapting situation for floating children is not satisfying. In the last part, the thesis also analyzes the possibility and necessity of the intervention of the social work by pointing out that the intervention can improve the living quality of the floating children, enlarge their social extension, gradually decrease the exclusion from the society in the city, and enlarge and strengthen the social support network to them.
