Learning is everyone's task during his life. The basic target of education is to make the students to be independent and effective learners. It's very important to make the students learn how to study and foster their valid learning strategy. It can not only improve learning effect, lighten students' study burden as well as improve education quality over large areas. During the past few years , educational circles have paid close attention to learning strategy.Traditional foreign teaching only focuses on the study of language knowledge and the training of basic skills. It neglects the training of study method, learning strategy etc. The direct result is that the students can't study effectively. It can not only lower foreign education quality but also add the students' burden indirectly. Many students spend much time and energy on English, but the effect of English study isn't very good. Although there are maybe many kinds of reasons, the basic one is that the students don't grasp effective English study method and learning strategy.The study of learning strategy is reflection of "the students-center" thought. Modern English teaching pays more and more attention to learners' effect. Making the students learn how to study has been an important part of English teaching. The study of English learning strategy and the training of it during English teaching process is another important task for English teachers.To make the students grasp effective learning strategy during English study, teachers must give proper guide. And it's also necessary for the students to have special training of learning strategy step by step.This thesis is mainly geared to the needs of high school students. It uses questionnaire, investigation and data analysis to study the practical application of English learning strategy in order to analyse existing problems then put forward some countermeasure. This thesis attempts to discuss and solve some practical problems in English study.The result of the study shows: English learning strategy hasn't been laid stress on, fully developed or utilized in high school. It even hasn't been fully infiltrated into English classroom teaching.Students lack related knowledge about learning strategy. They can'tchoose valid strategy during the study process. Teachers don't give special training about learning strategy to their students. To solve these practical problems, we must strengthen English learning strategy in order to carry out education reform and foster students' learning ability.It's very necessary to have regular learning strategy training for all the high school teachers in order to make them understand and use it better. In addition, during the process of strengthening and training students' learning strategy, we should obey the training rules, steps and pay attention to a series of practical problems.Course reform advocates the change of learning style. It encourages cooperative learning, discovery learning and autonomous learning etc. The practical application value of English learning strategy should be paid much attention to during the change of learning style. And teachers should penetrate learning strategy and try to make it run through their English teaching. Making the students learn to choose valid learning strategy in their study is very important. It's the better way to achieve the real value of education.
