The study of learning strategy in second language acquisition is an influential issue in the overlaping field of applied linguistics and psychology. Since 1960's, it has been valued and noticed by many scholars. In the field of the second language acquisition study, A.L Wenden , O'Malley , Chamot, and Oxford contribute a lot. From 1980's, it was practiced more and more in our country(it was mainly focused on the learning strategy of English). However, it is still less on the study of middle school students comparing with the other studies. Because of this situation, this study is meaningful for the reform of English teaching of middle school. This study take a completely investigation on the situation of the practice of middle school students. The sample is 543, includes Mongolia and Han nationality students.The questionnaire is edited by linguist Oxford. There are eight angles in this investigation.There are conclusions as follows:1 .The idea on how to use strategy and the choice of learning strategy is significant related. It means that when a student thinks some strategy are more important he is possibly to use it.2.In the junior high school, male students have difference from the female students on choosing learning strategies. But the difference is minor when they get into senior high school.3. Mongolian students have some significant differences on the use of mother language strategy from Han students. Compared with the Han nationality students, Mongolian students have some advantages in the study of language learning. The main reason is that they have experience of learningthe second language for long time. It has positive influence on the learning the other language.4. Most middle school students use the learning strategy when studying English. But the difference is significant. Among all grades, the students tend to use form strategy. The frequency of using meca-congition strategy and cognition strategy decreases in the junior high school and increases in senior high school.5. There is significant correlation between the results of study and the choice of learning strategy. The students whose scores are higher tend to use cognitive strategy and form strategy.6.From this study, the writer gives some advice on training learning strategy. On the training learning strategy, the teacher should use his influence positively.
