"Co-operative learning is one of the largest educational reform nowadays."asserted by Ellis, A.K. &Fouts, J.T., the famous American education critic. This quotation comes from his new book The Research On Educational Reform. With the development of globalization, today's young learners should learn to co-operate, communicate and be confident. On the basis of self-cognition, learners manage to understand the others and even the world. It is the mission of education to make the learners know the diversity of the culture and the similarity of human beings. In that case, as educators, we will cultivate the learners' spirit of cooperation and encourage them to accomplish the assignment in groups.Being introduced to the English classroom teaching, the method of co-operative learning leads to good results of English teaching. The ability of co-operation and communication has been much more developed than ever before. So this is the theme of this research paper.My starting point is to surround the thesis of the application of co-operative learning to the English classroom teaching together with an awareness of the co-operation and communication. The research consists of six parts.Part one. At the beginning of the research, I analyze the development of the traditional English teaching methods and clarify the background of the research. As a result of the demands of English , the reform and development of English teaching have been promoted. Therefore, different backgrounds lead to different teaching methods included the grammar-translation method, the direct method, the direct method, the audiolingual method, total physical response, communicative language teaching and co-operative English teaching. I point out the advantages of the co-operative learning which enriched the theory of English teaching.Part two. Co-operative learning is a wide and multi-level concept. This part is to give the brief introduction of the theoretic bases, types of study, the basic factors and the teacher's role and revelation of co-operative learning research.Part three. Under the situation of the lately curriculum reform, I try to describe the main task of the English teaching, In China, the large number of the students , the time limitation and the pressure of the examination cause low teaching effect. Therefore, it is urgent and necessary for English learners to co-operate and communicate each other.Part four. This part mainly discusses the introduction of the theory of co-operative learning to the English classroom teaching. I analyze the general characteristics of English education, the teaching process and the assessment methods. The students-to-students interaction should be constructed and the teaching aims will be achieved by the co-operative activities in groups. At the same time , the co-operative consciousness and communicative ability will be strengthened. Meanwhile, I make a further research on the English co-operative learning method through case-analysis, including the analysis of the co-operative learning process.Part five. From the view of the value of development of co-operative English teaching, I clarify the advantages of this teaching method and point out the problems of co-operative learning.To some extent, co-operative English learning enriches the theory of the English classroom teaching. Moreover, I have applied co-operative learning to English classroom and gained good teaching efficiency. I hope my research provide with guidance for the lately teaching reform in our country.
