In recent years, quality education is advocated in the field of education so as to cultivate high qualified students. During this process, the center of the classroom teaching is changing from teachers to students. That is to say, while teaching in the classroom teachers should take consideration of students both in the form of classroom organization and classroom management. Gradually, it is realized that the command of language knowledge and the cultivation of intercourse ability should be based on encouraging students' English learning interest and motivation.Co-operative learning came into being in America in 1970s, and very soon it was noticed throughout the world, because its method can improve students' academic achievements and form a good habit of cognitive quality. Especially, it can create a friendly study atmosphere in classroom teaching. By the end of 1980s, the research and experiment of co-operative learning was introduced into China, in which students were encouraged to learn English cooperatively. Through taking part in the activities and communications in small groups, both teachers and students can benefit a lot. The aim of co-operative learning is to find a balance between cooperation and competition, meanwhile, optimize and take advantage of cooperation and competition, which accords with the laws of education and demands of the new era. On the other hand, co-operative learning also challenged the traditional teaching model by means of solving many difficulties in order to have a quick grasp of knowledge, flexible skills of learning and arousing students' interest etc in the reform of English teaching worldwide.The author adopted the Jigsaw method which was invented by Dr Aronson.
