Chinese textbook plays an essential role in the Chinese language curriculum. In the education process of human beings, Chinese textbook is believed to benefit its reader in an extensive range.These advantages will include the knowledge growth, habit and mastery development as well as sufficient ideological cognition. Chinese textbook is acting like a bridge, which supports its reader to perceive the world, experience life, form the correct emotion attitude values. All these benefits make Chinese textbook occupies an important position in the curriculum reform.Study of the design and application of Chinese textbook has a great significance for the improvement of Chinese language teaching. A Chinese textbook usually formed by four parts, namely selection system, knowledge system, practice system and assistance system. With the development of Chinese Teaching Theories, more attentions are concentrating on the practice system. Nowadays, this system is become the carrier of the course contents rather than a technique which requests mechanized repeat or memory of the knowledge. It is no longer an appendage of the textbook but an indispensable part. In every sense of the word, as an efficient knowledge transfer technique, practice system is the best system to help students towards the Chinese accomplishments.In this thesis, the practice systems of Chinese textbooks published by People’s Education Press and Jiangsu Education Press were investigated, respectively. To be specifically, the practice systems of “The Sight of Father’s Back” and “The Song of Mulan”, which have different versions in different education presses, were compared.The defects and advantages of the design of the systems were studied from different aspects. The thesis is performed into four parts. The first part is the introduction of text book system and the practice system. Then the development history of Chinese text book and practice system is tracing in the second part. In the third part, the author will delve more deeply into comparing the text book, especially practice system design between different education presses. Finally, some suggestions are proposedbasic on the research to help the development of the Chinese text book in the future.
