As the keyword of curriculum standards’ core tasks and basic concepts, biological science literacy has been put forward repeatedly. So it is necessary to detect students’literacy levels as an important metrics to measure the biological science educational outcomes. However, because of its abundance and complexity, the evaluation of biological science literacy shows its difficulty. So it is valuable to carry out the research of constructing accurate evaluation tool to measure the biological science literacy of Senior high school students.Taking the students who have completed high school biology required courses as research target, by applying qualitative and quantitative research methods in the whole paper, basing on the specific target content of high school biology curriculum standards and applying the SOLO’s classification theory as the technology roadmap, we have completed the preparation of the tool to evaluate high school students’ biological science literacy. The tool comprises two parts, the first part is the biological science literacy assessing indicator system, including as follows:one is the content framework consisting of three dimensions about biological knowledge, scientific capacity and emotion, attitudes, values to provide the basis for selecting subsequent content of evaluation papers; the other is the weight system that involve three first-level indexes, eleven secondary indexes, nineteen evaluation points. The second part is the whole assessment topic about biological science literacy, which includes the examination paper about knowledge and capacity and the evaluation scale about emotion, attitudes and values.After discussion and analysis about the data test results and interviews to the surveyed people, the final testing subject consists of 25 questions(21 way the multiple choice topic,4 way comprehensive topic), involving 15-item about knowledge dimension and 10-item about ability dimension. The emotion, attitudes, values’ questionnaire consists of 20 questions, involving 6-item about emotion, 7-item about attitude and 7-item about values. Through the above analysis, we can not only conclude that the whole assessment topic proves high reliability and validity, but also judge that the structure of the whole assessment topic coinciding with the assessing indicator system built before. So to some extent, the conclusion above can prove that the total evaluation tool is scientific and practical.Throughout the overall design process of biological science literacy evaluation tool, because the scientific literacy assessment research based on SOLO’s classification theory being in the exploration stage and the research method that can be referenced is less, therefore, the research directions can be further improved and optimized in the future study.
