Extension, as an important part of classroom teaching, is a new initiative in reading teaching which appeared since the implementation of the new curriculum reform of Chinese. It is of great significance for junior high school reading teaching and has become the consensus among the majority of teachers. Colourful and brilliant activities of extension have injected new vitality into junior high school classroom reading teaching, activating the students’ thinking, and also playing a vital role to improve the enthusiasm of their language learning. But throughout the situation of its current development in the junior middle school Chinese classroom, it is not satisfactory that many teachers have mechanical and one-sided understanding of the ideas about the extension of reading teaching, and just carry out "tag" from the aspect of form, ignoring the essence and starting point of extension. Therefore, there is an extension which disregards of classroom teaching objectives, digresses from textbooks and the practice of classroom teaching, even squeezes the time of classroom teaching expansion and extension, showing in reading teaching. Not only that is not conducive to improve students’ Chinese accomplishment, but also a waste of the education resources. Therefore, in reading teaching, following the targeted principle, moderate principle, heuristic principle and the principle of development is needed. It is necessary to have a definite object in view, focusing on the realization of 3D objects, whereas basing on the fundamental and focusing on the classroom reading teaching are also needed; it is necessary to achieve organic combination of form and content, and also it needs to pay attention to the presupposition and production of educational wisdom. When reading teaching is in progress, teachers should take appropriate method strategies and grasp the height, depth and breadth of extension. By activities of extension, the students’ thinking can be led to a more broad or more in-depth world, in order to achieve the goal "to teach in order to not teach", cultivating students’ independent reading ability, indeed improving the efficiency of reading teaching, and committing to the students’ formation and development of Chinese attainments.
