Cultures, as a compulsory module of political courses in senior schools, puts more emphasis on the students’ development of their attitudes, emotions and values, compared to the other three modules (Economics, Politics and Philosophy). It is both a challenge to focus simultaneously on thoughtfulness, morality, appreciation of beauty as well as Cultures, and a key concern of the development and application of curriculum resources, with the drive for the reformation of fundamental education. For the purpose of enhancing students’ interest, promoting teaching efficiency and outcomes, and developing a positive attitude towards the love for the hometown as well as the motherland, teaching Cultures in senior schools in Nanjing entails involving local cultural features and exploiting local cultural resources.Nanjing serves as a critical and historically cultural center in China. Mountains and waters feature Nanjing cultures, which are also profoundly influenced by politics. Nanjing cultures enrich Cultures, including humanity, local traditions and cultural heritages.A growing number of teachers attempting to employ Nanjing cultural resources though there do exist, problems are still anchored in the reality. There is a lack of the organic combination of Cultures and the local cultural resources, and of cooperation between teachers and students. Based on this, this paper aims to investigate the strategic use of Nanjing cultural resources into Cultures (stage 1- arousing students’ interest with speeches entitled’I love Nanjing’; stage 2-formulating a blueprint of Nanjing cultures; stage 3-reflecting upon Nanjing cultural phenomenon; stage 4- redeveloping local cultural resources), and to propose three basic principles for developing and utilizing the resources, namely pertinence, openness and specialty. And the final aim is to share experience with other areas which are eager to develop and utilize local cultural resources in the political courses. |
