The period of high school is transitional in students’life of study.Not only is ita continuation and expansion of their previous knowledge, but also it lays afoundation for their further education. The model of the College EntranceExamination in Shandong province is "3+X", with division of Arts and science.Geography,which plays an extremely important part in NMET, belongs to theliberal arts"X".But there is a problem that current high school students lack strong motivationfor geography learning, tired of dealing with many exams. The stronger theirmotivation is,the more satisfactory grades they will get in exams.Based on the geography learning of No.58Senior High students,the authorintends to do more detailed research on their geography learning throughinterviews and questionnaires,including their attitudes to geography,the possiblecauses and the strategies to interest them in geography.The first part of the paper describes the background, content and significanceof the subject as well as some information abroad related to it; the second partsummarizes relevant research, including the concept and definition of learningmotivation, types of learning motivation and theories, such as Maslow’s theory ofdemanding motivation, intensive motivation, attribution theory of motivation andachievement motivation theory; in the third part the author makes analysis aftersurveying geography teachers and students in Qingdao No.58Senior High; thefourth part mentions the factors that affect the geography learning motive of high school students according to the survey; the fifth part introduces the strategies onhow to stimulate high school students to learn geography better following theresult of the research above; the sixth part is the conclusion, main target andoutlook.It has a profound influence on our geography teaching to research the demandof the students’ motivation, analyze the factors and explore strategies forstimulation. Only in this way will the students be able to show great interest ingeography and make more efforts to learn it and put education for all-rounddevelopment into practice.
