In the modern society, with the increasingly fast development of science andtechnology and the shortening of the updating circle of knowledge, study has become thetask one has to face all his life. So teaching students how to study and fostering theirstudy ability has then been the primary goal and the fundamental task of army educationand training. Petty officers are a special group of talents between officers and soldiers, animportant connection of them. The pre-selected petty officers are those soldiers who inthe second year of compulsory military senior, are strictly selected to some trainingorganizations by their own units and after having professional skill training, are chosen asjunior petty officers. At present, because all kinds of army education and training are justin the period of development and renovation, those training organizations still have someshortcomings unsuitable for producing high-qualitied petty officers, especially in helpingthem possess the study ability. Therefore , taking efforts to solve the chief problem thatinfluences the quality of the petty officers ' training is the key point of enforcing thesystematic reformation of training organizations and the promotion of the whole level ofeducation and training .There are problems of four aspects mainly discussed in this thesis: the meaning andpresent situation of training pre-selected petty officers in the study ability;the theorybasis of study ability and the specialty of its formation;measures of its training;and theresult analysis and suggestions.Nowadays, the difficulties of training pre-selected petty officers in study abilitymainly lie in two aspects: on the situation of students, most of them have greatmisunderstandings of the study ability. The non-intellectual elements influence theirstudy ability to a fairly great extent. Some students are not expert at taking advantage ofstudy strategies as instruction on the army's current cognizing and developing level offostering the study ability, the army's recognition of the concept of study ability is stillnot scientific. They lack profound research, detailed training measures and consummateeducation policy.Before making researches on the training measures of the study ability, we firstprobe deeply into its scientific theories. We think that the study ability is a kind ofpersonal feature formed and developed in study activities when students use scientificstrategies to obtain, deal with and take advantage of information to analyze and solvepractical problems. The essence of the study ability is just the knowledge, skills andstrategies which are connected in the form of structure, network and procedure. Theintellect and study strategies are the core of study ability. And carrying on the studystrategy training to realize the effective integration and mastery of the knowledge plays apivotal role in forming the study ability.In practice, we train the pre-selected petty officers in the study ability on five aspects.First of all, we attach great importance to the effect of the non-intellectual elements. Thenwe lay emphasis of training on the self-study teaching. Moreover, we produce somecreative and practical teaching activities to realize the comprehensive development of thestudy ability. And as to how to foster the fundamental ability in education and training,we do the research on four points, the ability of observing, remembering, thinking andexpressing. Besides, we thoroughly analyze the principles of producing the assessmentsystem for evaluating the pre-selected petty officers' study ability and try to create thesystem and its operating methods and ways. Finally, do improve the capability of thefaculty so that they can fit in with the needs of training the pre-selected petty officers inthe study ability.In the practical training, we chose 100 pre-selected petty officers of navigationmajor in 2005 and divided them into a testing class and a comparing class 150 membersin each class as the objects of the study. We analyzed the training result by the method ofcomparison, activity analysis and private talk. Before training, we first investigated thepre-selected petty officers by questionnaires and knew about their original situation oftheir study ability. During the course of training we carried on practical teachingaccording to the training measures. The practical research proves that the training isindeed effective—pre-selected petty officers' cognizance of the study ability is muchmore profound and their ability is also improved seriously. Seen from the comparisonexperiment, the effect is quite obvious.The last part of the thesis is the discussion and outlook of the problems lying in theresearch.
