| Sichuan Provincial Metallurgical Machinery Plant mainly manufactures complete sets of equipment and spare parts for metallurgical, mining, petrochemical, construction material, lifting and transportation and other industries. It is one of the ten largest enterprises in Sichuan provincial special equipment manufacturing industry and of the 500 largest industrial enterprises in Sichuan Province. With the development of the national industrial policy, the regulation of the structure of the metallurgical industry and regulation of the industrial structure in the eastern suburb of Chengdu City, great changes have taken place in the external environment of the enterprise. Now the steps for large state enterprises to separate their main business from auxiliary business are being quickened , and the separation of metallurgical machinery repair business from a metallurgical enterprise has become the trend of the times. Once the separation is completed, the competition in the metallurgical machinery manufacturing market will become even keener. On the one hand, in addition to the existing metallurgical machinery enterprises, the enterprises competing against one another in the market will include the metallurgical machinery repair enterprises which have separated from the metallurgical enterprises; on the other hand, with the temporary stop of the fixed assets investment in the metallurgical industry, the existing metallurgical machinery manufacturers will surely turn back to the market of metallurgical spare parts and tools, participating in and intensifying the market competition. Sichuan Provincial Metallurgical Machinery Plant once produced spare parts for mining machinery, building material equipment, glass processing equipment, medical apparatus and instruments, paper machinery, petroleum drilling and recovery equipment, chemical industry machinery , etc., but the enterprise had no clear development direction in the keen market competition because it was short of correct strategic guide. The change of the market and the pastexperience and lessons require that the enterprise establish a development strategy in agreement with the market requirements and the conditions of the enterprise itself.Based on a vast amount of data, this thesis analyzes the external environment faced by Sichuan Provincial Metallurgical Machinery Plant from political, economic, technical, social and cultural aspects; analyzes the actual competitors in the industry: Xingtai Mechanical Rollers Co Ltd, Hengyang Metallurgical Machinery Plant, Xi'an Metallurgical Machinery Co Ltd, Changzhou Metallurgical Machinery Plant, Scanna Metallurgical Machinery Rollers Co Ltd, Suzhou Metallurgical Machinery Plant, Jiaxing Metallurgical Machinery Plant, and the potential newcomers of 19 enterprise machinery repair plants represented by the Machinery Repair Plant of Anshan Iron and Steel Corporation, and the five basic aspects of the competitiveness of the suppliers and purchasers such as bargaining ability; uses full and accurate internal data of the industry and internal data of the enterprise to analyze and compare its conditions of resources and capacity, thus fully understanding the opportunities, challenges, advantages and disadvantages faced by the enterprise.
