Cloude Achille Debussy, a French composer, was the most representative impressionist composer in the late 19th century. In his thirty years'composing career, he took it as his duty to break the traditional music framework and formed his own romantic music mode. His compositions are filled with obscure and artistic feelings which easily arouse a visionary imagination of listeners.Among all the piano compositions composed by Cloude Achille Debussy, the Twelve Piano Etudes are his most favored pieces in terms of style, composing techniques and performing skills. This paper intends to analyze these etudes'artistic features and performing styles through studying.The paper is divided into three parts: Part One expounds the music style of Cloude Achille Debussy and how it was produced. It analyzes the influences of his life experience and culture through getting to know the composer's growing environment and character. Part Two introduces the artistic features of Cloude Achille Debussy's piano compositions and his twelve piano etudes. It mainly focuses on the composing background of the composer. Part Three concentrates on the analyses to the composing techniques and music language of the twelve piano etudes one by one through examples. In the concluding part, proposals and suggestions will be given on how to study and play the twelve piano etudes of Cloude Achille Debussy.
