Design Is A Process, The Structure Is A Way

With the information society and the image era are coming, and development of the commercial culture, visual communication design which through visual symbols to transmit the information gets more attention than before. In addition, its connotation and extension is also expended with the progress and the development of society, through the merging with the other disciplines and fields, visual communication design are reached unprecedented heights both in theory and practice. Therefore, designers have to think more complicated when they facing and solving the problem, at the same time, the process of creative also becomes more complex.In this thesis, I am trying to put the theory and concept of structuralism into the research of visual communication design, and from a overall view and step by step, I combine communication, semiotics, cognitive psychology, art and design theory with my own experience to make a re-understanding in the design process of visual communication design, build a composite structure system which is multi-layered, open and evolutive. Subsequently, I analyze characteristic and law of motion of the structure system. The aim of this research is not to find a universally applicable unified pattern, in fact, there is never to be a pattern like that, but rather is to find the law of design work of a kind, and to guide design practice.
