Shao Heng Poetry

As a scholar in the early Qing Dynasty,there are two important activities in Shao Changheng's life which is participating in the imperial examination and Youmu(游幕). He had participated in the imperial examination for many times,but always failed,so he had never entered political stratum.Throughout his life he repeatedly made wide trips,but his life was very poor and he never achieved his aspiration.As a typical Youmu scholar,the study about his mentality and the situation of his literary creation is very valuable.The life as a guest in Wang Zehong's MUFU in Beijing and Song Luo's MUFU in Suzhou has great impaction on Shao Changheng. Shao Changheng made friends with Wang Shizhen and Shi Runzhang when he was in Beijing.Because of this,he learned from Lee(李白),Du(杜甫),Han Yu(韩愈), so his poetry style is preferred for the Tang Dynasty poems.They not only learned from the poems of the Tang Dynasty,but also opposed to the creative atmosphere which only elevated the Song Dynasty poems.AS a guest in Song Luo's MUFU at Shao Changheng's old age,Song Luo had the great impaction on him.Shao Changheng's poem tent to the Song Dynasty poems.By the impaction of the idea that literature must be practical,Shao Changheng advocated that literature must be in true application(文贵适用),and abided by the literary perspective that the article must contain moral.About creative methods,he advocated dredging the root causes of the article firstly and pursuiting grammar secondly,and insisted that the foundation should be stressed,oppositing imitation stiff. Shao Changheng's biographies praised the loyalty to the imperial court and promote ideological and moral orthodoxy.All this reflected his idea that literature must be in true application.Shao Changheng not only abided by the traditional poetry perspective that poems should guide and contain emotions,but also proposed the poetics concept of self-harvest.He maintains the middle ground toward the controversy between the Song poem and the Tang poem.His poetry reflected the social reality,and exposed the malaise,especially Yong Ming Dynasty Yuefu have a certain historical value.All this reflected and advanced his poetry perspective that poems should guide and contain emotions.
