1990s The Chinese Mainland Military Novel Perspective

The military novel came to its culmination in 17 years and appeared its second boom in 1980's, which had drawn great attention of many readers as well as the literary critics. But, along with the social transformation, the military novel of 1990's gradually lost its sensational effect during the period of 1980's. To clearly grasp the entire creative situation and the development trend of the military novel of 1990's, this paper, using the research method of comparison, compares the military novels of 1990's with the military novels of 17 years and that of the 1980's, and makes a systematic analysis and study on its content, subject and artistic style, and then proposes new features of the military novels of 1990's. The study shows that the new changes of 1990's military novel makes it excel on aspects of thought and art, and thus, plays an important role in the development history of military novel.Firstly, the paper points out the evolution of the concept of military novel. Secondly, focusing on the effects of social transformation on the military novel, this paper discusses the new characteristics of the military novel of 1990's. Thirdly, taking several representative works as examples, this paper, on several aspect including narrative structure, narrative views and creative means, illustrates the new features of the military novel of 1990's, i.e., the creation of the military novels of 1990's has been gradually emerging from the original barriers, its personality traits seem more obvious, and it also re-examined the heroes and has completed the remodeling of heroes. Following that, by concluding the development course of the contemporary military novel, this paper holds the point of view that the liberation of current social culture environment, the influence of readers' expectation and the writers' creative consciousness together make the military novel of 1990's form its distinguishing features---the awakening of individual consciousness, the remodeling of the militaries, and the combination between military novels and television works. Finally, this paper analyzes the accomplishments on Creation Awareness and Aesthetic Conception made by the military novel of 1990's, and it holds that the accomplishments lie in three aspects ---individualized heroes, the highlight of the status of folk heroes, and the expansion of writing themes.
