In recent years, the number of military drama has increased every year. In thiscase, people usually named the year after the hit military drama such as “Liang Jian”year,“Shi Bing Tu Ji” year and “Te Zhong Bing” year. And what attracts mostpeople’s attention in such hot Television cultural phenomenon? Maybe the vivid andunique characters in the dramas are the key factors. Apparently, soldier is the majorcharacter in the military drama. In the minds of most Chinese people, the concept ofhero used to be equivalent to the concept of hero. However, the concept of hero ischanging gradually with the rapid development of social and economic development.But now, the heroic images in minds are different from each other when we talk aboutthe topic of “hero”.To understand deeply the creation of the military drama since the1990s, thispaper makes efforts on three aspects: First, figure out how many types of herocharacters has been made in the military drama since the1990s. Second, analyze theprocess and mechanism of the change of heroic views. Third, reveal the new featuresof military drama in such a multi-cultural context nowadays.Although the types of hero characterization are more rich, and break lots oftradition, there still exists some shortcomings. For instance, there are too many“typed” dramas. The ways to shape the roles are too exaggerated. In addition, thefemale characters lack of change and vitality generally.
