Residential Bai Evil Culture Study

This thesis records the culture and ecology in Jian Chuan Yun Nan province through investigating western lake district and its neighborhood, analyzes the culture of avoiding evils through the folk construction in Bai minority area.This thesis briefly introduces the culture of avoiding evils in the introduction part, generalizes the types of evils and the ways of avoiding evils, finds their differences and varieties. This culture in Bai is concealed, various, and interpreted in people's daily life. This ideology and tendency fill Bai's culture, especially in the folk construction. The main part of this thesis introduces the whole Jian Chuan district, focuses on folk construction in Jin Hua town, Xiang Hu village, Zhu Liu village, Wen Hua village, Long Men Yi to find the image representation of this culture. To get a conclusion from the researches on location, arrangement, decoration of the local architecture: the culture of avoiding evils in Bai minority is combined to the folk life, both in duration and space. It makes researches on these images, including images for getting rid of evils, images for people's houses in other ceremonies including festivals, weddings, having a baby, funerals, images for decorating, and analyzes the culture which produce these images. These researches prove that the image is not a solely auspicious image but a comprehensive culture, which consists Bai's system of avoiding evils.This thesis is trying to summarize the traditional ceremony and culture in Bai minority area of Jian Chuan to display the panorama of the culture of avoiding evils in Bai minority area lively and completely.
