On Evils In21^st Century Chinese Films

Compared with the characters with binary opposition of good and evil in themovies of1980s and1990s, new images of evildoers have been portrayed in the newcentury’s Chinese films, which are breaking bad, a mixture of good and evil. Drawingupon large numbers of commercial movies of new century, this research analyzes thenew phenomenon, exploring the social and cultural causes, and making prospect onmorality orientation of Chinese films in the future. This paper consists of four parts:first, the introduction section providing an overview of the cinematic issues in the newcentury. Second, based on the theory of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, analyzes andcriticizes the methods of handling and presenting complicated evildoers in selectedmovies. Third, based on the different situations presented in the movies, analyses thesocial cultural causes, trying to make prospect on morality orientation of Chinesefilms in the future.
