The source text of the translation report is excerpted from the first and second chapters of The New Limits of Education Policy--Avoiding a Tragedy of the Commons written by Roger Benjamin. The book, from the perspective of political economy, reveals the basic values of American education policy, analyzes the existing and prospective problems faced by American higher education, and points out the nature and direction of education policy reform in the future. It is an eye-opening and critical read for anyone with vast interest in the future of higher education, including policy makers, administrators, teachers, students and scholars of economics and public policy. The report consists of four parts: translation task description, translation process, case study and reflection on the translation. The first part introduces the source of the original text, the author’s professional experiences, research field and social influence as well as the book’s contents and main idea; the second part overviews the whole translation process, including determination of style, unification of technical terms, selection of translation methods and CAT tools, as well as proofreading, polishing and finalization; the third part, mainly from three aspects: lexical, syntactic and discourse analyses, describes the thinking and verifying processes as well as translation skills of the author of the thesis; the forth part summarizes the experiences and lessons. The report aims to illustrate the whole translation process, and, through case study, summarize translation skills of educational texts so as to provide some help to translators in the relevant fields.
