Modern Syria is a country which has experienced complicated history process. Its modern politics began with the collapsed of Ottoman Empire at the end of the First World War. French colonist occupied Syria, broke off the path to establish independent Syria until 1946. After unstable political situation of early stage of independence , in 1963, the Ba'th took over the power by a new military coup, established one-party and party-regime political system. The Ba'th internal power struggle and political dispute led to twice division. At last, the neo-Ba'th brought Hafiz al-Asad to power in Syria , from then on, Syria's politics was gradually coming into a new era.The age of Asad (1970-2000) is an important stage in Syrian contemporary history . During the 30 years, Asad depended on the military ,the Ba'th ,the bureaucracy and social organizations, concluded the struggle for power in Syria , established national political authority, changed Syria from a weak and unstable state into a regional player with standing and influence, and built patriarchal president authoritarian system.. This system, on one hand, adapped to the require of political and social development. On the other hand, it confined the progress of democracy in certain degree, so gave rise to people's resentful feeling. However, Asad built the central authority all around country, gained the increased state strength, which offered good bases for future. The process of politics development demonstrated many features, and these features help deepen the understanding of the Syrian politics.This thesis bases on the Syria history process and historical facts, applied the theories and methods of history, politics, analyzes the Syria political development. The aim is to offer experience to the developing countries.
