Gao and Wu Dynasties are two important ones in Tang Dynasty. They played an important role as the connecting bridge between the preceding and the following to connect the Zhenguan Good Controlling and the KaiYuan Flourishing Age. GaoZong and Wu Zetian are outstanding feudal monarches, but spring orchid and autumn chrysanthemum are temporary. There are many differences between their kingcrafts, the dismission of capital officials is an example. Inheriting the foundation of TaiZong, GaoZong received TaiZong's relique, aroused his all efforts and worked energetically to make the country prosperous. He not only made an effort to develop and strengthen economy, frequently resorted to arms and enlarged military affairs; but also constantly perfected political system and law and impulsed the development of politics law and culture. On politics, he accepted remonstrance with an open mind, encouraged the free airing of views, consulted kingcrafts and seeked talents on managing state affairs among common people. On law, he constantly perfect law, draw the Yonghui Law,composed the detail explaination to Tang Law, but with pity in estimating punishment and criminating and taking care of lives. So many capital crime obtain GaoZong's favor, and they avoided death and were lucky to win renascence. On culture, he impulsed the development imperial examination and was strict with the abilities and morals of the talents avoiding the interfusion of crafty sycophants to bureaucracy when he chose scholars as officials and awarded officers. So he crucially punished and dismissed the wicked officials who brought a false charge against others. These dismissed persons always embroiled many other relative persons to be dismissed whose number is far exceeded the cardinal number. Therefore, the number of dismissed capital officials because of being involved in criminals was at the top of dismissed officials. It is the most distinct character in dismissing capital officials of GaoZong Dynasty.Wu Zetian had revealed outstanding abilities in managing state affairs and ambition on politics at the age of GaoZong. After the death of GaoZong, she manoeuvred among various political groupings of new and new by right of her outstanding wisdom and strong character just like a duck to water. In order to come round people and cultivate her own force, she widely opened imperial examinations to many common people tomake them officials. Besides, she appointed a great amount of officials through Xiefeng or Mochi and largely use Experimental Official that hadn't taken imperial examinations. She of course dismissed, punished or killed those asymmetry officials. For the stability of her political status, she largely appointed cruel officials, encouraged telling on and cruelly suppressed even killed antagonistic force, all of which cause a lot of cases involving unjust falsely and wrong charges. Wu named herself monarchess, which is unconformity to the law and tradition. Thus she cared much about the liege opinions and sayings. Since Xu Jingye raised troops in Yang Zhou, she furthermore felt that people under the sun all wanted to topple her over and encouraged telling on, and made the bring of false charge against people become a common practice. Consequently, at the end of Wu Dynasty the number of dismissed capital officials because of being brought a false charge were at the top of dismissed officials, and the number of dismissed capital officials because of their ideas and sayings offended Wu promoted to the second instead of the last in GaoZong's Dynasty. It is the most distinct character in dismissing capital officials of Wu's Dynasty.This paper is divided into four chapters. The first chapter introduces the academic trends about dismission of officials in Tang. The second chapter statistics the number of dismissed capital officials in Gao and Wu Dynasties of Tang, and analyzes the reasons of dismission.
