Chen Duxiu Calligraphy Study

To be strictly speaking, Mr. Chen Duxiu was not an expert in the field of autography, but due to his deep understanding of it, his inside culture quality, his personality and temperature, he gained success in the same field as well.Mr. Chen Duxiu, as a literati, accepted the old learning system in his childhood, and soon gained the new learning system which he vigorously advocated, He, with great attainment in Chinese national culture, also got western science and democratic ideas, which made him the combination of eastern and western cultures. He, of independent character, inherited and exploited the thoughts of literature. The advantage of his own special opinion preserved by his vivid characteristic gave a full presentation in his works including his autography. And his aesthetic spirit in his autography played the sense of enlightenment not to be ignored. Beyond the generic way of the ordinary calligrapher's study, the comparative method was used in the paper to make a transverse contrast among Mr. Chen Duxiu's autography, his contemporary calligraphers' and his friends' so as to find their different and common grounds, aiming at the overall and stereo study of Mr. Chen Duxiu's autography.
