Xiang Mu lived in the famous Jiangnan scholar in Wanli period of Ming Dynasty and received the orthodox Confucianism education.Influenced by his father Xiang yuanbian,he loved calligraphy all his life.Under the circumstances of wanton and willful calligraphy style in the late Ming Dynasty, the author of "calligraphy elegant words" tried to turn the interest of the times and the calligraphy style of the times by "thinking of Confucius and Mencius".Although it didn't turn back the tide, the significance it gave calligraphy personification is worth pondering.Xiang Mu regarded calligraphy as a tool to promote social ethics and establish moral standards, and expressed the ideal personality of Confucianism through calligraphy. In the elegant words of calligraphy,Xiang Mu shows his aim of criticizing the current maladies and his position of Confucianism on the personality of calligraphy, puts forward the basic concepts of calligraphy such as "Neutralization","orthodox","human regular calligraphy",reveals the internal influence relationship between the image of calligraphy and the personality of calligraphers, and analyzes the interaction relationship between the creation of calligraphy and the personality of calligraphers.Xiang Mu combines the ideal personality of Confucianism with Wang Xizhi's calligraphy aesthetics, advocates the personalized calligraphy aesthetic ideal characterized by "Neutralization",and runs through the whole process of "calligraphy Yayan",so that his calligraphy thought of "only the right army is the right swan of calligraphy" is firmly established on the basis of Confucianism. From the point of view of contemporary calligraphy art, although its aesthetic standard of calligraphy "to zhongjihe" is single and its Confucian position is also biased, the in-depth and systematic discussion of the relationship between the personality characteristics of calligraphers and calligraphy art by Xiang Mu's calligraphy personality thought is of great significance to the current calligraphy creation.
