Objective:In recent years, people have been studying the changes in saliva composition, the hope of using saliva as a simple non-invasive diagnostic or medicines monitoring methods of clinical diseases, This experiment is to learn the correlations of the concentrations of tumor necrosis factora(TNF-a) between saliva and serum in patients with recurrent aphthous ulceration (RAU). In order to use saliva instead of serum as the biological samples to detect RAU etiology, the severity of disease, clinical monitoring of drugs as well as clinical observation. Methods:Thirty patients with light RAU and thirty healthy controls were recruited. The contents of tumor necrosisfactora(TNF-a) were measured in both saliva and serum of patients with RAU and control subjects by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and TNF-a standard curve. Two-sample t test statistical methods was used for RAU saliva group and healthy comparison saliva group, RAU Serum group and healthy comparison serum group, To explore the TNF-a levels whether difference saliva or serum between RAU patients and normal; Linear correlation analysis statistical methods was used for correlation analysis of saliva samples and serum samples of patients, to explore the relevant about the concentration of TNF-a between saliva and serum of RAU patients. Results:The contents of tumor necrosisfactora(TNF-a) were measured in all specimens of patients with RAU and control subjects by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), after statistical analysis the results are as follows:(1)The TNF-a concentration of saliva in RAU group was significantly higher than the normal control group, there are statistically significant (t= 4.458, P<0.001);(2) The TNF-a concentration of serum in RAU group was significantly higher than the normal control group, there are statistically significant (t=4.929, P<0.001);(3) There was significant correlation between saliva and serum concentrations of tumor necrosisfactora(TNF-a) in patients with RAU(r= 0.826, P< 0.01), Linear regression equation as follows:TNF-a concentration in saliva (pg/ml)=-5.039+serum TNF-a concentration (pg/ml)×1.528.Conclusion:Further description the levels of TNF-a was significantly higher than the normal control group between saliva and serum in patients with RAU.The present study demonstrates that There was significant correlation between saliva and serum concentrations of tumor necrosisfactora (TNF-a) in patients with RAU, Saliva could replace serum as the biological samples to detect the content of TNF-a in patients with RAU, We can test levels of TNF-a of saliva to observe the severity of disease, by detecting the saliva content of TNF-a to observe the clinical effect of treatment.
