Objective: To research clinical curative effect of herba portulacae decoction with the diluent of the decoction for external use for the treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD) and the change of the level of total IgE in blood serum.Method: Divide 52 patients of atopic dermatitis into the experimental group and the control group stochastically. The experimental group took orally herba portulacae decoction decocted in water, 1 dose a day, 3 times after the dinner; for those with effusion, hydropathic compress with 20 times diluent of herba portulacae decoction, 3 times a day; for those with dryness of skin lesion, sesame oil for external use, 2 times a day. The control group took orally the chlorphenamine 0.35mg/Kg a day; for those with effusion, hydropathic compress with sesame oil for external use , 3 times a day; for those with dryness of skin lesion, silicone oil crem for external use, 2 times a day. Observe clinical symptoms (SCROAD integration as score standard) and the adverse effect, return visit every week, carry on the curative effect appraisal 8 weeks later, and make follow-up visit for 3 months. Examine the level of total IgE in blood serum before and after treatment in the experimental group.Result: As for SCROAD integration, the experimental group and the control group have no significant difference before treatment (P>0.1); 2 months later, the two groups have significant difference (P<0.05) and the integration of the two groups after 2-month treatment is lower than that before treatment separately; 3 months after the treatment had ended, the integration of the two groups have significant difference (P<0.05); and the integration of the two groups is higher than that after treating 2 months separately (P<0.05). As for the level of total IgE in blood serum, the two groups have no significant difference before treatment, after treatment and treating 2 months (P<0.005). After treatment, the level of total IgE in blood serum of partial patients has not dropped to the normal range. Conclusion: The treatment perscription of pure Chinese medicine is effective to treat AD, and the short-term and long-term therapeutic effect of the experimental group is better than the control group. It is presumed that the Chinese medicine affects the pathogenetic links of AD through multiple pathways. The level of total IgE in blood serum drops obviously.
