OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of acupressure Yang fu Points(GB38) combined with Conventional neurology therapies of gait, walking ability and ADL in hemiplegic patients who suffered hemiplegic drop foot combine with abnormal inversion and cannot control the ankle joints well after stroke.METHODTotally 41 frist-onset patients who accepted rehabilitation therapy in China-Japan Friendship Hospital department of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine participated in this study. All of patients with stable stroke within 3 months were randomly divided into acupressure group(AG) and control group(CG) by the time of registration. Conventional neurology therapies were given to all patients, and the patients in the acupressure group were given acupressure Yang fu Points(GB38) therapy 5-10 minutes per day.The totally therapy was given to once a day,45-55 minutes every time,5 times a week, continued 6 weeks. After 2 weeks, patients were evaluated the degrees of paretic ankle's dorsiflexion and counted the case of the active ankle eversion. After 4 weeks and 6 weeks, the walking speeds, step of length, time of each foot were evaluated by Biodex Gait Trainer 2,and evaluated each sides of foot contact area especially fifth metatarsal's contact area by Footscan systems. In order to observe the lower limb function and patients ability of daily life, the gait function,Fugl-Meyer lower limb function,Barthel Index had been evaluated when patients entered study and finished study.RESULTThe improved of paretic ankle's dorsiflexion degrees was 11.43±6.35(P<0.05) in AG and 7.25±6.38 in CG.After 6 weeks, the fifth metatarsal's contact area had improved in both groups. In AG, after 4 weeks, hemiplegic foot fifth metatarsal's contact area is 12.60±1.44,after 6 weeks the area is 11.02±0.81(P=0.000<0.001),In CG,after 4 weeks, hemiplegic foot fifth metatarsal's contact area is 12.65±1.50,after 6 weeks the area is 12.32±1.42(p=0.037<0.05),so patients who received acupressure Yang Fu point(GB38) had more improvement in changing abnormal ankle movement pattern.FMA was 24.81±6.60(P<0.05) in AG and 20.20±6.08 in CG,the Gait Score is 12.38±3.20(P<0.05) in AG.BI,walking speeds, step of length and time of each foot were no significant difference between two groups. CONCLUSIONHemiplegic drop foot with inversion after stroke can be rectified by acupressure Yang fu Points(GB38) combined with Conventional neurology therapies, the lower limb function, and hemiplegic gait also can be improved by this therapy. This treatment is safer, and effective, and this paper offered a feasible therapy to combine Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western medicine together. Not only to accelerate the stroke recovery speed, but also help patient gain more normal movement patterns.
