Objective:The paper intended to develop an evaluation system for the core competency of head nurses,through the exploration for the core competency of head nurses.The evaluation system will provide standards for the evaluation on the core competency of head nurses,and provide references for the selection,appointment and training of head nurses.So the human resources management will be evidence-based.Method:Establish a fundamental framework of the evaluation system for the core competency of head nurses by using the methods such as literature review,theories analysis,Delphi Method.Design a questionnaire based on the framework of the evaluation system.Seven methods were used in result analysis after a questionnaire study that 354 head nurses,nurses,nursing managers and doctors had been surveyed.Result:The 33-item evaluation system for the core competency of head nurses was formed,which included six dimensions:basic quality and ability(4 items),clinical professional skills(6 items),nursing management ability(6 items),interpersonal competence(4 items),nursing research ability(6 items),nursing education ability(7 items).Conclusion:The Cronbachαcoefficient of each dimension was between 0.803 and 0.950, the general internal consistency Cronbachαcoefficient was 0.965.It has satisfactory homogeneity reliability,re-measuring reliability,content validity and construct validity. The assessment indicators have a very high sensitivity,independence and representation. The eventually-formed evaluation system for the core competency of head nurses can be used as the basis for the evaluation on the core competency of head nurses.Originality in this study:Chose the head nurses as subjects and firstly developed an evaluation system for the core competency of head nurses,so evaluating the core competency of head nurses will be evidence-based.Tentative plan:Improve dimensions and indicators of the evaluation system,and develop the weight of each indicator in the entire system.We will make further studies on the weights of each indicator.
