A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection that begins in your urinary system. The most common cause of UTI are bacteria from the bowel that live on the skin near the rectum or in the vagina which can spread and enter the urinary tract through the urethra. Once these bacteria enter the urethra they travel upwards causing infection in the bladder and sometimes other parts of the urinary tract. According to clinical feature, UTI belong to Stranguria. Stranguria is a common disease usually caused by kidney deficiency and damp-heat with a long duration. And damp-heat is as the main pathological factor. In this paper we try to clarify the curative effect of Zhi-lin-tong on UTI caused by "damp-heat". After treatment with Zhi-lin-tong, the total effective rate was 93.33% compared with Qing-lin -ke-li (80.00%). These results suggest that Zhi-lin-tong has a better effect than Qing-lin-ke-li on UTI( P<0.05).Further more, soft agar method were used for detecting and evaluating the inhibition of Zhi-lin-tong on Bacillus coli. In conclusion, Zhi-lin-tong has good effects on UTI. We believe that Zhi-lin-tong may have the potential for further development as an effective drug for UTI and we speculate that it may be used either alone or in conjunction with another drug for UTI.
