| [Aims]We made the experimental neuropsychologic research for Chinese Alexia, from the difference of the Chinese character and alphabetic writing. We discussed the word recognition mechanism in brain from the radical level and Chinese individuality and wanted to know the neuropsychologic foundation of Chinese Alexia.[ Subjects & Methods]We screened 3 typical Alexic patients, and made the basic language examinition, visual perceptic test and naming test. Then we made the deeply research of semantic test and Chinese character reading test. And we selected one patient to make another two tests of regularity effect in high frequency and radical effect.[Results]The 3 patients had no remarkble visual perceptic disorder and the basic language ability were good. The semantic system were integrity. In the test of regularity effect in low frequency characters, SGY and SY had the significance differerce in correct rates. In high frequency characters, the marks of SY had no statistic significance. When we limit the strock number, in high frequency characters, the marks of SY in one, two and three radicals had no statistic significance. In low frequency characters, his marks between one and two radicals had significance differerce. In high frequency with more strocks characters, the marks of one radical character were low than two radical and had statistic significance.[Conclusions]We conclude that there exist the radical recognition in Chinese reading. The radical is recognition with character recognition in whole word. Radical number effect only exist in low frequency words. The radical effect in Chinese reading has the interaction with character frequency. Processing of a character include three levels, namely stroke, radical and character.
