This article is composed of two parts: theoretical studying of etiologic factors and pathological mechanism of depression and experimental study of Caihujialonggumuli Decoction on anti-depressant.In the forter parter, the author points out depression belongs to Dian disease and Yu syndrome due to anxiety, depression, and anger in traditional Chinese Medicine.Constitutional insufficiency and asthenia of heart and spleen is interal etiologic factor in the process of depression, meanwhile stimulting of emotional disappointment is the important exterior factor. And Pathomechanism of depression is Stagnation of liver-qi,Mixture of phlegm and qi,Obstruction due to phlegm stagnation ,then phlegm and blood stasis clouding orifices of heart. And location of depression is heart, brain, liver and gallbladder.According to the pathomechanism, the therapeutic principle is relieving depression to regulate qi ,resolving phlegm and blood stasis to open orifices, tranquilizing mind with heavy herbs. In modern clinical studies, many doctors have found that Caihujialonggumuli Decoction(CJLMD)has significant effect of antidepressant. In the latter one, our experimental studies observe the effect of CJLMD on depressant animal models and investigate the possible mechanism of antidepressive of CJLMD.The results of the experiments indicate that CJLMD can significantly decreased the accumulative immobility time in mice forced-swimming test, significantly decreased the range of reserpine-induced hypothermia in rats. The level of 5-HT in corpus striatum and limbic area of depression model rats could also be increased by CJLMD So the possible mechanism of CJLMD for anti-depressive action may be involved in increasing contents of monoamine neurotransmitters.
