Nowadays, depression has become a common and frequent disease in modern society and the incidence rate of depression increased fast. Depression has seriously threatened both physical and mental health of human.In this research we observed 50 patients in clinics who were diagnosed with depression . According to our investigation, in almost every case, besides the emotional symptoms, there are various physical symptoms , such as : chronic fatigue, anorexia with weight loss , insomnia, aches and pains in body, loss of sexual drive, and constipation, etc . We believe that practitioners can take advantage of TCM to help the patients to reduce these physical discomforts .Meanwhile , we analyzed the relevant 104 antidepressant-prescriptions . The results indicate that the basic therapeutic methods are promoting the free flow of qi in the liver, regulating qi in the spleen as well as tonifying the spleen, and replenishign blood and nourishing yin, calming and tranquilizing the mind; There are other some important compatibilities of medicine as follows : drugs used to excrete dampness aiid to resolve phlegm ; drugs for promoting blood circulation ; drugs used to clean away excessive heat or fire ; drugs for promoting circulation of channels and collaterals, stopping pain; drugs used to tonify the kidney and strengthen yang.At the same time, we evaluated the antidepressant effect of Caihujialonggumuli Decoction (CJLMD) with chronic unpredictable stress animal models . The anti-depression results are positive . In accordance with this, the prescriptions in TCM are reasonable and effective to anti depression .
