Objective: To investigate the effects and mechanisms of protecting the liver and lowering the enzymes of WUZHIDIWAN pills (WZDW) on hepatic injury.Methods: (1)The model of acute hepatic injury was established in SD rats by tube-feeding of 15% carbon tetrachloride(CCl4). The pathologic changes of the liver were observed with microscopy and analytical system of graphics and images. The model of chronic hepatic injury was established in SD rats by subcutaneous injection of 10% CCl4. The weighing index of liver was calculated and serum values of TP and Alb were determined and the status of hepatocirrhosis was observed with microscopy and analytical system of graphics and images.(2)The model of acute hepatic injury was established in SD rats by tube-feeding of 15% CCl4. Serum values of alanine aminotransferase(ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase(AST) were determined. The model of chronic hepatic injury was established in SD rats by subcutaneous injection of 10% CCl4. Serum values of ALT and AST were determined. (3)The model of subnormal immunocompetence was established in BABL/C mice by intra-abdominal injection of 5% chicken red cells suspension following with intramuscular injection of endoxan. The values of optical densit(OD) were regarded as the indexes of serum hemolysin level. The model of subnormal immunocompetence was established in BABL/C mice by intramuscular injection of endoxan. Then IV type hypersensitivity was induced by intradermic injection of mice's back of 7% dinitrochlorobenzene(DNCB). The margin values between left slice and right slice of mice's ears and the weighing indexes of spleen and thymus were calculated. The model of subnormal immunocompetence was established in male BABL/C mice by intramuscular injection of hydrocortisone. Phagocyticindex and phagocytic modulus were calculated.Results: WZDW pills significantly inhibited the elevation of ALT values andAST values and heightened the values of serum TP and Alb and A/G, andimproved liver pathologic changes and inhibited liver tissue proliferativefibrosis of acute hepatic injury and chronic hepatic injury induced by CCl4,and increased serum hemolysin level and ear weight, and elevated theweighing indexes of spleen and thymus,and increased phagocytic index andphagocytic modulus of reticuloendothelial system.Conclusions: WZDW pills manifest good effects of protecting the liver andlowering the enzymes on hepatic injury. The principle mechanism is relatedwith protecting liver epicyte, inhibiting liver tissue proliferative fibrosis,inhibiting the activities of ALT and AST, improving liver metabolism andmodulating immunopotency.
