Objective:To observe the curative effect and safety of Paishichongji to treat the urolithiasis in order to provide the scientific basis for its clinic application.Method:All 70 patients from the Affiliated Hospital of Hubei College of TCM, conforming to the diagnostic standard, were randomly divided into two groups: therapeutic group (n?0), including 26 cases of damp-heat type and 24 cases of Qi-stagnation and blood-stasis type, treated with Paishichongji; control group (n?0), including 12 cases of damp-heat type and 8 cases of Qi-stagnation and blood-stasis type, treated with Niaoshitong. The curative courses of both groups were one and half months. Observing the difference of both curative and safe indexes between before and behind treatments.Results:1. The total effective rate of the therapeutic group was 86%, higher than the control group (70%). There was no significant difference between two groups (P>0. 05), which indicated that the therapeutic group had good effect on urolithiasis.2. There was significant difference on curative effect in Qi-stagnation and blood-stasis type between the therapeutic and the control groups (P<0. 05), which indicated that the therapeutic group had better effect on Qi-stagnation and blood-stasis type than the control group.3. The stone eradication rate of the therapeutic group was 68%, higher than the control group (40%), and there was significant difference between two groups, which indicated that therapeutic group had better effect on stone eradication than the control group.4. The duration before stone eradication of the therapeutic group was 21.46 ?11.76 days, significantly shorter than the control group (32.14 ?12. 88 days) (P<0. 05).5. There was no significant difference between two groups in the kidney stone eradication rate (P>0.05); while there was significant difference between two groups in ureter and bladder stone eradication rate (P<0. 05), which indicated that therapeutic group had better effect on ureter and bladder stone eradication than the control group.6. There was significant difference between two groups on the curative effect of stone with diameter between 0. 6 cm and 1. 0 cm (P<0. 05), which indicated that therapeutic group had better effect on stone with diameter between 0. 6 cm and 1. 0 cm than the control group.7. There was significant difference between before and behind treatments in the total scores of both two groups (P<0. 05), and there was significant score difference between the two groups (P<0.05), which indicated that both therapeutic group and control group could improve the symptoms and signs of urolithiasis, and the therapeutic group had better effect than the control group.8. There was significant difference in the pyuria and hematuria curative rate between two groups (P<0.05) , Which indicated that the therapeutic group had better effect on curing the urine abnormality than the control group.9. There was no abnormality between before and behind treatments in both groups, which indicated that Paishichongji was a safe and effective medicine for urolithiasis. Conclusion:The clinical observation indicated that Paishichongji had good effect on urolithiasis (Damp-heat type and Qi-stagnation and Blood stasis type). It could efficiently enhance the stone eradication rate, shorten the duration before the stone eradication, and improve the symptoms and signs. And there was no any side effect of Paishichongji. Paishichongji was an effective and safe medicine for urolithiasis.
