As a representative prescription of phlegm-resolving prescriptions, Two Old Drugs Decoction(TODD) is consisted according to the principle of resolving phlegm, downward the adverse qi to regulate stomach and promoting diuresis to eliminate dampness from Inner Cannon of Yellow Emperor and Synopsis of Golden Chamber in phlegm-resolving prescription. It also indicates that the principles of resolving phelgm and regulating qi in Sui and Tang Dynasty, the method of using old drugs and compatiblity of two old drugs. The consisting principle of TODD of drying dampness and eliminating phlegm and regulating qi and stomach, summarized the principle of resolving phlegm before Song Dynasty, it became a general and original prescription of resolving phlegm. This thesis discuss the origin and development and concept of associated prescription, try to find the development and regulation of TODD and its associated prescriptions, sorting out more than 400 associated prescriptions since Prescriptions of Taiping Benevolent Dispensary that divided into 10 kinds. The significance of summarizing TODD associated prescriptions and their modifications is to strengthen the effects, change the character, treat deteriorate symptoms and other syndromes due to phlegm-retention. Besides the effects of drying dampness and eliminating phlegm and regulating qi and stomach, TODD associated prescriptions also have effects of regulating stomach to stop vomit, benefiting lung to allay asthma, promoting diuresis to eliminate dampness, regulating qi to expelling pathogenic accumulation, calming wind syndrome to relieve convulsion, clearing away heat and dispersing pathogenic fire, warming the middle-Jiao to dispel cold, expelling pathogenic factors from the exterior, relieving distension and eliminating dyspepsia and strengthening the healthy-qi and invigorating deficiency.
