China is on the phase of social change in this stage, while all kinds of conflict intensify and the medical system reform is extremely urgent. The doctor-patient relationship is a really hard problem which the medical system reform must deal with. Patient involvement as an important way to improve the physician-patient relationship has been widely recognized in western countries. Research and practice both show that the patient involvement is the key factor to better the physician-patient relationship and improve treatment.Previous studies of doctor-patient relationship all focus on the doctor-patient communication, and few attention is on the patient involvement. Patient involvement and trust are both important parts of the physician-patient relationship. This paper proposes a physician-patient interaction model, and takes patient involvement as the key to study. We study the essence of patient involvement and trust form the perspectives and attitudes of doctor and patient. By applying the study, we test the model and explore new factors of patient involvement in physician-patient relationship management research. Analysis revealed that all hypothesizes have been supported or partially supported except doctor-patient communication positive correlation with patient involvement. For the trust factors, we have also found a series of conclusions that the state of the physician-patient relationship can be expected to produce change with the interactions between patient involvement and trust. On the basis of the model validation, we also found some new antecedents of patient involvement and their relations to patient involvement. This study enables medical institutions managers and decision makers to effectively manage physician-patient relationships, and ensure the patient satisfaction.
