This research aims at formulating the lumbar disc herniation PRO scale by reviewing the research on patient reported outcomes (PRO), analyzing the clinical manifestations of lumbar disc herniation, referencing the neck and low back pain PRO scale which had been formulated by research group, and referring to modern theoretical framework of PRO scale. Methods:Opening interview, in-depth interview and expert seminars were used to confirm the scale of lumbar disc herniation PRO domain systems, which were transformed into the relevant entry pools through three ways. The lumbar disc herniation PRO scale, including physical condition, mental and capacity status of three domains which contain eighteen clauses and subclauses, were formulated after repeated discussion and revision by the research group. One hundred patients with lumbar disc herniation were investigated with the scale in order to assess the reliability and construct validity of the scale further more. Statistical analysis:Cronbach's Alpha were above 0.9 of the scale, which indicated the good reliability of the scale; the scale KMO were above 0.8 by factor analysis, then three main factors effecting the coefficient of variation were obtained through principal factor analysis. The design of the scale was consistent with the three domains, which demonstrated good internal structure of the scale. Results:The scale has good reliability and construct validity.
