[Objective] In order to observe relation beteewn the clinical effects of discetomy lumbar disc herniation and the height loss of involved disc space in the postoperative radiographs.[Methods] A telephone follow-up was conducted in 368 patients who underwent discectomy for herniation in our hospitol from 1992-2004. 46 patients was took photos and observe relation beteewn the clinical effects of discetomy lumbar disc herniation and the height loss of involved disc space in the postoperative radiographs.[Result] The excellent /good rates in open-window were 97.9%,effective rates were 91.3% . the height loss of involved disc space in the postoperative radiographs was discovered in all the patients.[Result] The open-window may achive satisfactory long-term result for treatment of lumbardisc herniation.There were no obviously relative beteewn the clinical effects of discetomy lumbar disc herniation and the height loss of involved disc space in the postoperative radiographs.
