Background:Allergic rhinitis, belonging to the I type allergic disease, whose main clinical symptoms are sneeze, nasal mucus, congest ion and nasal itching, has sudden onset, recurrent, persistent and refractory characteristics. At present the onset of allergic rhinitis shows ascendant trend. Although its itself does not belong to serious illness, but can affect the patients'quality of life, and may induce the bronchus asthma and allergic conjunctivitis and so on many kinds of complications. The pathogenesis of allergic rhinitis currently has not completely clear in Western medicine, and its research hotspot focused on T lymphocytes and cytokines.According to its clinical symptoms, the allergic rhinitis is attributed to the areas of "Bi Qiu" in the traditional Chinese medicine. The researches on the syndromes of the allergic rhinitis mainly depend on traditional theory and personal experience now. The doctors of TCM mainly study in the theory of viscera deficiency. In studies, the standards of syndrome diagnosis are not identical and lack of clinical investigation of large samples. The effects of anthropogenic factors across the differentiation process also make the studies lack of objectivity. Therefore, there are different points of view about the syndrome differentiation of allergic rhinitis. Objective:To understand the current syndrome types of TCM clinical status of patients with allergic rhinitis, provide useful reference for the TCM syndromes and clinical basis for treatment based on syndrome differentiation of allergic rhinitis. Methods:During the period of August October in 2010, we used the questionnaire investigation of TCM syndromes to research 200 cases of allergic rhinitis patients confirmed by Peking Union Medical College Hospital for ENT Clinic and finished differentiation on patients with the application of computer in data entry and analysis according to the syndrome differentiation standards. Results:There are eight basic syndromes and their points syndromes in our research:blood stasis syndrome (85,42.5%). Damp stagnancy syndrome (72,36%), including damp stagnancy in nose (52,72.2%), dampness and heat in the liver and the gallbladder (19,26.4%) and dampness and heat in the spleen and stomach (12,16.7%). Wind syndrome (60,30%), including windcold syndrome (31,51.7%) and windheat syndrome (24,40%). Qi deficiency syndrome (37,18.5%), including kidney qi deficiency syndrome (18,48.6%), deficiency of the lung qi syndrome (7,18.9%) and deficiency of spleen qi syndrome (4,10.8%). Fireheat syndrome (19,9.5%), including gallbladder heat syndrome (15,78.9%) and lung heat syndrome (7,36.8%). Yin deficiency syndrome (10,5%), including deficiency of heart yin syndrome (5,50%), deficiency of lung yin syndrome (5,50%), deficiency of liver yin syndrome (2,20%), deficiency of stomach yin syndrome (2,20%) and deficiency of kidney yin syndrome (1,10%). Blood deficiency syndrome (2, 1%). Yang deficiency syndrome (0). There are several kinds of syndromes: single syndrome (78,39%), double syndromes (54,27%), three syndromes (21, 10.5%), four syndromes (9,4.5%) and no syndrome(38,19%). Blood stasis syndrome, damp stagnancy syndrome and wind syndrome are the main syndromes of allergic rhinitis. Conclusions:Blood stasis syndrome, damp stagnancy syndrome and wind syndrome are the basis of making up the clinical syndromes of allergic rhinitis. It prompts us to strengthen the research and discussion of blood stasis syndrome, damp stagnancy and wind syndrome. It also provides the theory of wind syndrome to research clinical treatment by discussing the relationship between allergic rhinitis and wind syndrome.
