At present, the provinces geological exploration units as provincial bureau of the provincial government, bureau-level units are all for the non-government institution, the geological exploration units contain a number of brand enterprise, but mostly in the geological exploration leading to variety of operating pattern of the secondary industry, multi-enterprise investment system has not been formed. The geological exploration units still face many severe challenges. On the one hand, the management system is not reasonable, institution management and enterprise management is not seperate. The economic behavior pattern largely remains at unit model, On the other hand, enterprise management is not in accordance with the corporate governance structure of standard operation. The paper based on the combing with the institution reform ideas and paths of coalfield exploration institution reform process and analyse the main achievements and problems. And through summary analysis of the practice of Sichuan coalfield exploration of geological survey, the research of this paper will make certain significance to 21 provinces for 19 Coal Geological Exploration's management system reform, it also make use to other coalfield exploration units. In this paper, the coalfield exploration must be based on the reality, in accordance with the classification of reform ideas and institutions, and further clarify the type of its administrative functions, public service, production and business model are three function duties.
