With China's entry of WTO and the further openness of Chinese insurance market, the competition of internal insurance market has been getting intense. Local insurance enterprises must adapt to the competitive environment and enhance their competitiveness through effective management. Performance management plays a critical role in evaluating and motivating employee, strengthening the enterprise's vitality and competitiveness, accelerating the development of enterprises and promoting the market position. How to set up and improve the performance management mode and increase the level of performance management has become a problem to which local insurance enterprises have to pay more attention.This article selects the typical local insurance company as object of study, uses the method of theoretical study with empirical study and qualitative analysis with quantitative analysis to research on the mode of performance management, the effect of implement and the existing problems. Through the analysis, the author finds the problems of existing performance management mode are as follows: the employee's inadequate understanding of performance management, each level managers' failure of fulfillment, employee's low recognition to the setup of KPIs, impropriate setup on the department level's KPIs and evaluation method.Based on the questionnaire investigation and interviews, this article studies the problems and puts forward the suggestions as follows: (1) on the enterprise culture level , to build a kind of performance culture which is encouraging competition, respecting technique, and applying survival of fitness rule (2) on the performance management philosophy level, to propel the update of philosophy, improve the combination between the performance evaluation and training with assignment of personnel (3) on the system level, to improve and adjust each level's KPIs, introduce the Competency Mode, enable the evaluation result show normal distribution and adjust the index setup between departments (4) on the progress of evaluation level, to adjust the evaluation time, add in the self-evaluation link (5) on the method of evaluation level, to achieve electronic evaluation and standardize the way of evaluation between departments.
