The specialty of secretary in Chinese universities was initiated in 1980. Up to mid-1990s, more than 300 universities established the specialty of secretary and have been nearly 800 universities till 2005.With the rapid development of socialist market economy, esp. with the penetration of numerous transnational companies, people's concept of employing personnel has greatly changed. Since students graduated from the specialty of secretary in local universities cannot adapt to the requirements of the society, the dilemma of"relative surplus"appears in the field of secretary. Therefore, how to take effective measures to cultivate up-to-date secretaries has become an urgent matter presented before the educators of secretary training.Few current studies make systematic and deep research on the cultivation of secretaries in local universities. Thus, by employing the methods of Bibliography, Questionnaire, Symposium, etc., this study attempts to explore the present condition of secretaries and secretary cultivation from different angles of view, tries to spot problems in terms of secretary cultivation, and meanwhile works out effective methods to solve these problems.This thesis consists of five parts. Part one mainly introduces the reasons of the topic selection and lists the current problems. In part two, an investigation is made to get the information on the market demand of the secretary personnel. And then the deficiency of qualified personnel cultivation in specialty of secretary is attempted to be found out. Part three analyzes the problems commonly existing in secretary cultivation in local universities. Part four is the core of the thesis. On the basis of the analysis of the last two parts, some positive suggestions on secretary cultivation are proposed. Part five is the conclusion. It sums up the findings and points out some deep-level questions for further study.In accordance with secretary cultivation in local universities, this thesis puts forward some creative viewpoints and provides some innovative methods: First,"widen the caliber"in terms of secretary cultivating objectives. Second, optimize the curriculum structure according to the requirements of"Five Quality Modules". Third, build up"the second class"of the specialty of Secretary-training. I hope this humble thesis may provide some reference for other local universities in terms of Secretary-training.
