The basic thinking, basic theory, tools, methods and related to Six Sigma are described at the beginning of this paper. The six sigma DMAIC methodology applying in the improvements is also introduced. Aiming at reducing the stocks of WIP, which is one of the main performances, the six sigma DMAIC methodology is applied in the auto body factory of Jiang Ling ISUZU Motor Company. Firstly, through reviewing the shocks problem for each production process, the main reasons causing to the high stocks of WIP are found out. Secondly, based on the collected data, the exsiting problem scope is defined by the quantitative data and normal distribution chart. Taking use of the cause and effect chart and the cause and effect matrix tool, the key factor X is found out. Brainstorming and Value Stream Mapping are used to find the solutions. The implementation of the project improves the information flow of the production process. The Implementation of the project includes information-driven production, daily schedule management, and the quality improvement of surfece paint. After 6 months of the implementation, the performance of production process is increased greatly. The stocks of WIP is reduced about 200 units, and the stocks fund Occupation is reduced about 550 thousands Yuan RMB. Production lead time is shortened, and Customer satisfaction index is increased. Through improving the production sites, the 5S level of the yearly production in the factory reached the goal of the company.The practice showes that six sigma is one of the best methology to solve the problem for manufacturing industry.
