Six Sigma is a set of systematic method for business-improvement, a kind of management method designed to continuously improve business processes and customer satisfaction. It can prevent occurrence of flaws and errors radically by implementing DMAIC process (define, measure, analyze, improve and control) on the existing process to eliminate process-flaws and worthless operations.TFT-LCD (Thin film transistor liquid crystal display) industry is one of the global high value-added industries, but if we make a general survey of the development process of the liquid crystal display industry and the domestic short trial process, we will find that LCD function failure, especially the abnormal display, is a major problem which always puzzles the industry. The problem has caused great economic losses to both the domestic and foreign enterprises, and also affected the enterprise image. This needs to find its causes and solutions.By the application of Six Sigma process, this article provides a systematic definition, scientific measurement, in-depth analysis, ongoing improvement and control on the problem of TFT-LCD abnormal display. With the introduction of continuous improvement measures, the project achieved remarkable results. In the process, aiming at problem in practice, by using qualitative and quantitative analysis, the researchers carried on contrasting analysis of the reasons of abnormal display among the competing companies within the industry, and optimized process parameters with DOE.With the implementation of the project, the rate of abnormal display has been reduced, more losses avoided, great economic returns brought, and enterprise competitiveness improved. Meanwhile, the implementation of the project provides enterprises with a precedent of similar improvement in the future, and provides effective guidance in the implementation and application of Six Sigma methods. With further transformation of the project results, we believe that the experimental results will exercise a little contributes to the quality improvements inside LCD industry, and also useful for the domestic electronic and semiconductor industries to improve their relative business.
