With the rapid development of modern computer technology and internet technology, the embedded system becomes one of the hottest focuses in information industry, and a variety of embedded devices has also been widely integrated into human life. Nowadays, microprocessor with ARM core becomes the most popular 32-bit RISC embedded processor for its extraordinary performance, low power consumption and low cost. From the point of embedded operation system, Windows CE has the advantage of good performance, high reliability, economical substantial and convenient customization, so it has been widely used by embedded system developers.The research work of this article is based on ARKMICRO Company's hardware platform Ark1200, which is constructed by its own Ark1200 SOC chip. The main purpose of the article is to study how to migrate Windows CE5.0 to an embedded platform with ARM core chip, following this step is to develop Windows CE5.0 device drivers. First of all, the traits of embedded system are summarized, and then on the basis of anglyzing of hardware platform and Windows CE operating system, the article introduced the development process of Boot Loader, OAL and configuration file parts. At last, the article described the realization of Windows CE5.0 display driver.Considering the 2D graphic accelerator in ARK1200 SOC chip, the article also realized 2D hardware accelerating part in display driver. After all of this, some test program was implemented for the performance analysis of 2D. Beacause of the unique hardware platform environment, a number of codes must be strictly dependent on hardware, such as system clock, interruption control, storage control, display control, hardware acceleration part, and so on. On the basis of full participation of ARK1200 SOC chip verification project, the article gives the whole process of Windows CE5.0 transplantation and display driver development. Now the entire platform has been deployed in the following product R&D projects, running well.
