In recent years, as the development of semiconductor and microelectronics technology, the embedded systems which in the core of embedded computer technology has been developped rapidly. With the improvement of people's consumption level, a variety of consumer electronics has well up. In the mobile storage devices field, the limited capacity of the floppy disk has been gradually replaced by falsh memory, the mobile hard disk has currently become one of the mobile mass storage devices. In the field of multimedia consumer electronics, the initial simple audio player has gradually been replaced by audio and video consumer electronics devices.However, simple mobile storage function or simple audio and vedio player has not be able to meet the diverse needs of users, the audio playback system not have GUI (Graphical User Interface) have increasingly exposed disadvantage. In such case, this paper designed a better visualization, modular, extensible, portable multimedia player (PMP) device based on the structure of 32-bit ARM microprocessor. It provide a very good draw for development of multifunctional portable electronic devices and has a certain practical significance.In addition, take into account the consumer electronics interface for human-computer interaction requirements, as well as the late replacement product upgrades, this paper introduce a powerful embedded real-time operating system WinCE 6.0 as the implementation of the development of the entire platform, which is an innovative of this article. This paper, in the course of the design of handheld devices, based on commonality, portability, low power consumption, using the embedded development methodology, analysis the requirement of multimedia mobile storage terminals and work out the handheld device structure. Successful transplantation of E-boot and Embedded WinCE operating system, which accomplished the software building of the platform, and based on this platform, relatized the device drivers such as hard drive, audio and so on. In order to facilitate the later product upgrading, the E-boot is improved in this article, which is also an innovation point of this article. At design-driven, I2C been extracted into a separate I2C stream interface driver for the system to initialize the chip of the other modules, which is another innovation point in this article.In this paper, first briefly described the background of the topics, outlined the purpose of the study subjects, the meaning and status of research at home and abroad; followed by indepth exploration into building up the entire development platform, including hardware and operating system transplantation, driver development, hardware and software testing methods and process, In the end, the paper concludes a list of problems of the reasrch and makes a prospect of the following development.
