With the development of computer and Internet communication technology, IPTV, Internet Protocol TV or Interactive Person TV is growing fast and now is becoming a hotspot in the broadband multimedia field. Electronic Program Guide (EPG) is an important component of IPTV system. It provides a good navigation mechanism for users enjoying the television or multimedia programs and a convenient operation platform for IPTV information service. Therefore, EPG is considered a portal which users access to the IPTV system.This paper researches on the design and implementation of EPG backend in IPTV system. Firstly, it gives an overview of the concept and features of IPTV system. Secondly, a comprehensive analysis of EPG is discussed, including EPG's main function, system architecture, workflow, key technologies, and implementation, etc. Then, according to the campus IPTV service demands and actual project requirements, the architecture design of EPG backend in IPTV system is discussed in detail.Finally, the article focuses on the implementation of EPG generator and EPG release which are the key modules of EPG backend, and give a deep analysis for how to shorten the concurrent reaction time of EPG release modules.This project has been carried out in LAN.Test results show that the function of EPG has been satisfied and the design is proved to be applicable.
